Stuff I'm Doing in my Spare Time
Projects I've started
- (Java/Swing) GrodBots:
A game inspired by the Apple ][
educational classics Rocky's Boots and Robot
Odyssey. The basic premise is that you build a circuit from
simple logic gates to solve a specific puzzle which involves
moving a little robot around a playfield.
- (Java/Swing) A program that decomposes sound samples into spectral
information (represented as a greyscale image where each column
of pixels is the frequency information of a sample) that you can
edit as a graphical bitmap and then convert back to a sound
sample. I saw a documentary about French research lab IRCAM that
had this type of software, but I can't find anything like it for
free. I have since taken most of a BMath degree, and I'm sure I can
recreate this!
- (C) A Gameboy Advance game in which you race a little ship
around a track and compete with your friends for the best lap
and overall times. I'm working on this with my friends Dallas
and Gordon. I rendered the ship sprite using POVRay and a
netpbm shellscript for post-processing.
Projects I haven't yet started
- A usable map editor for the above-mentioned GBA game
- Make some OS X 10.4 Dashboard Widgets
- Learn the Apple OS X API
Stuff I don't do so much anymore, but I'm still interested in
- Playing games on Gameboy
Advance during my subway commutes to work (I'm playing through
Yoshi's Island at the moment)
- Reading both fiction and non-fiction (also during subway
commutes for the most part).
- Learning to play recorders (I have a complete set
(SSATB) of the
plastic Yamaha ones)
- Game Boy Advance software development (GCC+VisualBoyAdvance)
- Playing games on my Sega Dreamcast
